Israel Centeno

Israel Centeno (Caracas, 1958) is a writer, critic, professor, editor and promoter of Hispanic literature. He studied Drama at the Escola d’Actors in Barcelona. He has represented his country in numerous international literary gatherings. He has received multiple awards, such as the Federico García Lorca, given by the Instituto de Cooperación Iberoamericana of Spain (1987), the award of the Consejo Nacional de Cultura (CONAC), the Biannual Award Guayana Lucila Palacios (1996) and the award of the Annual Short Story Contest of the journal El Nacional (2003). In 2009, his unpublished novel Bajo las hojas, was part of the shortlist of the III-Premio Iberoamericano Planeta-Casa de América. Among other works, he is the author of Rabo del Diablo y otros cuentos (1993), Criaturas de la noche (2000), Hilo de Cometa y otras iniciaciones (1996), Calletania (1992-2008), Exilio en Bowery (1997-1999), El complot (2002), Iniciaciones (2006) and Bajo las hojas (2010). He currently lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as a resident writer of City of Asylum.
